On to Tregaron for lunch at the Talbot Hotel, behind which a circus elephant is buried after succumbing to lead poisoning in 1848.

We then travel to Strata Florida Abbey where a Cistercian monastery was founded in 1164 it was chosen for its solitude and isolation.

If you look closely enough you will see high on the hill above stands a 14 foot tall oak statue of a pilgrim sculpted by Glenn Morris and the students of Lampeter university depicting the nature of the elements in this area and commissioned to celebrate the heritage of Strata Florida.

We also stop at St Mary’s church for a tail or two in the graveyard from your tour guide Richard!

From here we travel over Devils bridge following on through to Cwmystwyth viewing the lead and tin mine ruins on route to Elan Valley and then the other Cistercian Abbey at Abbey-Cwm-Hir the route between the two Abbeys is called the Monks trod a route the monks used to walk many years ago.
